Why Predictability is Expensive

Why Predictability is Expensive

Predictability is expensive.  For example, a Lexus will cost you more than your average American car, but with a consistently high reliability score that increases with each new version, it makes the higher price justifiable for many consumers (And the Lexus owners who can't remember the name of their mechanic would attest to that!)

Of course, being expensive doesn't always translate into providing more value. But when it comes to providing predictable, stable, results, I'd argue that the benefit is worth the cost.  It's expensive to deal with irregular work that breaks as often as it works.  If predictability is so valuable however, why don't more Joomla development companies focus on it?

How Green Joomla Developers Drain Profits

How Green Joomla Developers Drain Profits

In the Marines, a “boot” is a new Marine and is what you are referred as for the first two years of your service, regardless of your rank.  When I served in the Marines, one of the things that bothered me as a boot was that leadership positions were assigned based upon experience.  The idea was that because the senior Marines had been in longer than the new guys they were more qualified to lead, but unfortunately this wasn’t always the case.  Blue Bridge has been in business nearly three times longer than I was a boot (six years). In reflecting upon my own experiences as a developer and seeing much amateur work over the years I've come to appreciate how important of a factor experience is and how the Marines might have ended up with that simplistic system.  Experience has a tremendous impact on how a project is accomplished and much of the time, that impact is felt directly by the client in their bottom line.

Why Custom Development Isn't the Only Option

Why Custom Development Isn't the Only Option

Most of the work that Blue Bridge does is for Joomla and this requires that we continually think about how our work will be integrated with the work of other developers. When talking to clients about their needs, occasionally they'll ask me how we’ll execute a project and I sometimes hear them sigh, "You'll probably need to code this from scratch, huh?" This response derives from their experience with past Joomla development companies telling them, "Whoever worked on this last did a horrible job. We’ll have to re-write everything." Now, don't get me wrong, we rarely work with other developers’ code that is to our standards of quality. However, we also rarely tell our clients that we have to start everything over or that what they want can only be coded custom if it's going to work well. Development companies may benefit by custom developing everything, but it's rarely in your best interest to take this approach. In this post, we'll explore when and why you would want opt for custom development and what the options for integrating with other developer’s work are.
